The Praxis of Social Imaginaries. Cosmologies: Othering and Liminality (Circle 3)

Praxis of Social Imaginaries, Summer Session 2023

Location: Palanga, Lithuania

The Praxis of Social Imaginaries. Cosmologies: Othering and Liminality (Circle 3) gathered once again during the Summer Session of the Nordic Summer University (NSU) on 27 July to 3 August 2023 in Palanga, Lithuania.

The thirteenth century mediaeval travel accounts of William of Rubruck’s The Mission of Friar William of Rubruck and Marco Polo’s Travels (The Marvels of the World) were the focus of the summer sessions of Circle 3.

The research entailed engaging with the texts while simultaneously entering into discussion seeking knowledge as to how the writings influence our present-day realities and experiences. ‘In dialogue’ with the voices of Rubruck and Polo, such conversations and exercises brought forth the idea of the silent and silenced voices in history.

The diverse experiences and voices within the NSU Circle 3 brought forth a rich dialogue stemming from various perspectives and experiences of existence.

One memorable highlight, amongst many, of the summer session was a joint reading of short stories on the beach.

The keynote speaker was Epp Annus

Circle 3 is initiated by theologian and dancer Dr. Laura Hellsten and performance historian Dr. Lindsey Drury within the Nordic Summer University (NSU).
